T-Mobile

T-Mobile is the UK network of T-Mobile International - a German mobile network operator headquartered in Bonn, Germany. Previously known in the UK as One 2 One, the company was originally owned by Mercury, later Cable & Wireless.

T-Mobile underwent a transformation and now boasts 19.2 million subscribers in Britain , making it the United Kingdom 's second largest mobile network. The company operates across Europe as well as the USA and has over 100 million customers worldwide.

Along with offering contract and PAYG services, the company offers a bundle package, known as ‘U Fix’. Perhaps T-Mobile’s biggest selling point in the UK , it allows you to mix the best bits of pay monthly and PAYG deals. It has proved a great success, as you have to top up the phone with credit once your monthly allowance is used up (won’t let you make any calls – unlike normal contract plans), meaning you'll never receive a monster bill!

Other Brands:

Other companies market service on the T-Mobile network under their own brand names, notably Value Telecom, which offers low peak time call charges but very high off-peak charges, and Virgin Mobile. The latter has no monthly line rental, and offers the very best value for most patterns of use.

More on Virgin:

Virgin Mobile is the UK's leading mobile virtual network operator and the UK division is a subsidiary of Virgin Media Inc, formerly known as NTL: Telewest Incorporated.

It was the first consumer brand to enter the mobile market placewhen it opened for business in November 1999 and currently has more than 4 million customers.

Virgin Mobile does not maintain its own network, but instead has contracts to use the existing network(s) of other providers. In the UK, Virgin Mobile uses the T-Mobile network. The company offers a prepaid pay as you go (PAYG) service and a pay-monthly option.

Coverage Map:

T-Mobile is a GSM 1800 network. The company claim 99% population coverage of the UK and are now catching up with their competitors, but it has not enjoyed the best reputation outside urban areas in the past.
