Samsung has claimed its share of UK handset sales will double this month compared with July, because of new products arriving on the market and the appearance of the D600 on prepay.
The Samsung E900 and the recently launched D900 have both proved to be strong sellers over the past few weeks. The D600 remains a popular choice both on contract and prepay.
While having traditionally shunned the prepay market, Samsung MD Mark Mitchinson told Mobile this week that it was aiming to 'close a gap in the market' by encouraging prepay sales of older models.
The Samsung C120, which is available for only £39.95, marks a move into new territory for the manufacturer as the first Samsung handset to make its debut on prepay.
This week's contract tracker shows five Samsung handsets in the top 20, including the E900 in second position and D900 at number seven. The D500 is the fifth most popular prepay handset while the D600 is at number 14.
