Tue, 22 Aug 2006

Samsung Electronics, the world's third-largest cell phone vendor, will start to market a handset this week, which can hoard more than 1,500 music files.

According to Samsung, Boasting the largest storage capacity in its class, the black phone can store up to 1,600 MP3 files, 16 movie files compatible with the "portable multimedia player " platform, and 20,000 digital pictures .

"As the multimedia environment evolves around mobile handsets, it's only natural that handsets will increase their storage volumes. Samsung will lead the market for large-size, high-end multimedia phones," said Lee Ki-tae, president of Samsung Electronics' telecommunication network business . The new product also comes with various audio features. They include an equaliser through which users can control the volume and mode of sounds, as they do with other audio gadgets. There are also echo effects, three-dimensional sounds, and speakers used in home-theatre settings called the "5.1-channel virtual stereo ."

The handset even sports new digital content for hard-core golfers. A user can search information on driving ranges across the country, tips on specific golf courses, as well as manage personal records. If the "golf manager" is aligned with a paid "global positioning system" service, the golfer can calculate the distance between where he or she is standing and individual greens, as well as measure driving distances.

On top of the marked storage, the handset sports many notable applications and devices such as mobile television powered by terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB), integrated dual speakers, TV-out and a 2-megapixel camera .
