It has been reported that Google Inc, one of the world's largest Internet search news provider is in talks with the mobile telecommunication firm, Orange, to create a Google phone. The mobile device will feature Google software with a screen size similar to an iPod Video . The two companies behind the venture are hoping this mobile handset will make surfing the web easier.
This deal could help develop solutions that could boost online usage of mobile devices that are in many ways similar to computers . Reports are that the Orange corporate executives flew to Silicon Valley in California to meet at Google's headquarters.
Tony Cooper, a telecoms analyst at consultancy Deloitte, said, "There are numerous situations in which people say, 'I wish I had Google in my hand'."
"If I was Orange, I'd want to get a share of the ad click-through revenues; if I was Google, I'd want a share of the airtime revenue. The potential stumbling block is if it's clunky and hard to use," he added.
It is likely that the phone will come preloaded with mobile versions of Google Applications such as Google Earth, Gmail and will likely run Windows Mobile. There are also rumours that it will also have location-based searches, such as a tailored list of local cinemas, restaurants and other amenities.
Google's largest competitor, Yahoo is also moving into this mobile data market with their recently signed agreement with the UK's Vodafone . They will be working with Nokia and will be offering Yahoo applications on some of the new phones .
The Google phone will probably be available in 2008.
