The fifth-largest mobile phone company Virgin Mobile UK said on Wednesday its user base rose by 12 percent at the end of the third quarter and said its talks with cable company NTL were continuing.
It gained 193,000 active users, those who used their phones in the quarter, in the three months to 31 December.
Average revenues per user rose to £123, from £121 the previous quarter.
The company is targeting service revenue growth at a mid-teens percentage rate for the full year and reported 8.7 percent growth at the half-year stage.
The company, which is majority-owned by entrepreneur Richard Branson and offers services by reselling airtime from T-Mobile, said its total base of active customers increased to 4.35 million compared with 3.88 million in the year-earlier period.
"Our discussions with NTL about a potential offer are ongoing and we will make further announcements about these in due course," said Tom Alexander, chief executive of Virgin Mobile.
He added, "Our continuing strategy of attracting high quality customers in the pre-pay segment fuelled our growth during the quarter."
