Sky has launched new services that let its customers watch shows and get information via computer and mobile phone.
The company has signed up several major Hollywood studios such as Sony Pictures to the service, which allows Sky Movie channel subscribers to download films at no cost.
The services are available for those with an existing subscription.
Titles available include Spiderman 2, The Day After Tomorrow and Layer Cake, and the company promises 1,000 films will be online by the summer.
The service will also include over 1,000 Sky Sports video clips at any one time including highlights of every Barclays Premiership and UEFA Champions League match.
Sky by mobile phone gives customers access to Sky entertainment, sports, news and weather on the move.
Sky by Mobile includes latest news stories and video feeds from Sky Sports and Sky News, a personalised "My Sports" section and live scoreboard feature along with weather forecasts. The service is available on all compatible 3G and GPRS networks via a range of handsets including the Nokia 6600, 6630, 6680, 7610, 6020, 6170, 6230 and 5140i, Sony Ericssons K750i, K700i, and K600i, the BlackBerry 7100 and 7230 as well as the V3 RAZR from Motorola.
Explaining why Sky has opted to provide the services at no extra change, Mark Deering, managing director of Sky Ireland said, "The value is in enhancing the services provided to the customers. Whats increasingly important to us is not just gaining new subscribers but improving the quality of service for existing customers. We are making flexible the ability to access our content."
Richard Freudenstein, Sky's chief operating officer, said, " Sky planned to roll out a series of additional services over high-speed internet connections and mobile networks.
"Families entertainment needs are changing fast and audiences increasingly expect to be able to access content whenever and wherever they want," he said.
Sky by Mobile, meanwhile, would package various entertainment, sport, news and weather clips and stories in a single portal that would be available on all mobile networks.
