According to new research, the frequent use of mobile phones may be adding to the stress experienced by couples, especially women.
The study involved 1,367 people. It found a link that the mobile phones/pagers bring job worries home, increasing psychological distress and lowering family satisfaction.
Dr Noelle Chesley, the author of the study said it found that having access to these phones was a negative experience for men and women, especially women.
Women in the study said that greater access through mobile phones also allows home concerns to infringe more on the working day.
The women in the study reported that mobile phone access meant that they received increased calls from children or elderly family members about problems in the home.
Dr Chesley said, "One reason for the increased stress linked to mobiles is that they are nearly too convenient.
"A mobile phone allows very quick access, whereas with a computer you have to make more of a decision to go to it, turn it on and check email or the internet, and you can chose not to bother with it, so there is more control than with mobile phones."
