Wed, 04 Jan 2006

Maker of electronic bits and bobs, Samsung have announced that it has managed to develop, what it claims, is the world's fastest mobile phone in terms of downloading multimedia.

The phone, equipped with an MSM6280 chip from the Qualcomm, enables users to download music or other multimedia content at a speed of 3.6Mbps, which is approximately equal to 10 MP3 music files per minute.

The company maintains that this mobile using "high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) technology," was first unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Samsungs Telecommunications Network Business' president, Kitae Lee, said, "Samsung is proud to showcase HSDPA as the future of mobile broadband."

This mobile which comes with a Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem, is a result of strategic collaboration between Samsung and Qualcomm.

The new handset marks "an exceptionally important milestone in driving the commercialisation and deployment of this technology worldwide," said Dr Sanjay K Jha, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.

With this, Samsung Electronics, has reinforced its leadership in technology since there has been demonstration of speeds that reached up to 1.8 Mbps, speeds of 3.6 have not yet been reached before this.

HSDPA is a new form of mobile broadband, which makes it possible to transfer data at speeds that are seven times faster than the usual WCDMA. With this the users can now enjoy the downloads of large multimedia files like DVD-qualities movie and other multimedia games.
