A crazy new vibration technology is set to buzz into our mobiles called "VibeTonz" which allows gamers to be immersed into the action with vibration.
The VibeTonz System adds vibro-tactile sensations to sight and sound cues on mobile handsets, making content more realistic and fun and operation more intuitive. Also, if you have assigned a certain ringtone to your best friend you will be able to tell they are calling without even taking the phone out of your jacket. Orange is initially offering the Samsung E770 phone and downloadable VibeTonz-enabled games to customers in the UK.
John Grundy, vice president and general manager of Immersion's Mobility Business Group said, "In the same way that cameras added interest and utility to the mobile experience, the VibeTonz System can improve interactivity and usability. We're advancing the use of touch, providing a sensory experience that is more complete and harmonious for digital devices."
The company suggests the technology can be used for mobile gamers to accurately feel the recoil of gunshots, the jolt of punches and the acceleration of cars or mobile messaging to be personalised with vibration-based heartbeats, growls and hugs.
To get new customers, VibeTonz-enabled games embedded in the Samsung E770 include four games: Airship Racing from eFusion, Bobby Carrot from eFusion, Arch Angel from Wait4U, and Freekick Festival from Zio Interactive.
"We added VibeTonz effects to Airship Racing, a hot-air balloon game where you can now feel the jolt of lightning bolts and the thud of dropping rocks," said Michael Lim, director of marketing, eFusion. "And we also added VibeTonz effects to Bobby Carrot, a maze game in which you now feel effects with the introductory music and each time you collect an object or complete a level. The two games are for very different demographics, yet the VibeTonz System adds a great deal of fun for both."
Orange will also be offering games specific to the VibeTonz effects via its Orange World service and games companies Superscape, I-play, and India games, are all planning to release games with VibeTonz effects.
The Samsung E770, a mobile phone intended for the mainstream market, comes with 1.3 mega pixel camera phone, MP3 player, 4 embedded VibeTonz-enabled games, and 15 embedded VibeTonz-enabled ring tones that can be used for caller identification.
