D-Link Releases Wi Fi Flip Phone

Tue, 11 Jul 2006

D-Link today introduced its flip-style Wi-Fi Phone, which can be used for VoIP-based voice calls .

The device comes in a compact clamshell design that weighs less than four ounces; features include storage space for up to 100 address book entries, caller ID and polyphonic ring tones as well as support for redial, mute, hold and text messaging .

According to D-Link, the phone provides about three hours of talk time and 70 hours of standby time on a single charge of the Li-Ion battery, which is about half of the battery life of average cellular phones . It supports three types of Wi-Fi encryption, WEP, WPA, and WPA2, and will support the Public SIP Telephone Network through a future firmware upgrade.

"We are pleased to announce immediate availability of the D-Link Wi-Fi Phone to the thousands of consumers and business customers that have been anxiously awaiting the product since we demonstrated a prototype at the VON show this past spring," said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link Systems, Inc.

"Our phone is truly a first of its kind in both design and functionality, and the potential cost savings to be realised from this type of device are astounding. This product will act as a flagship for D-Link in this key emerging market, complimenting our popular wireless networking and VoIP telephony solutions."

The phone is available in black (model DPH-540) or silver (DPH-541) and is priced at about $250.
