A recent study by Nokia finds more people worldwide are using their handsets as more than a mobile phone .
According to the survey, 44 per cent use their mobile as their primary camera, and 72 per cent say that their mobile has rendered their alarm clock obsolete as they rely on their phone to wake them up.
Nokia surveyed about 5,500 people between the ages of 18 and 35 in Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Britain and the United States .
"The results strongly demonstrate that people are buying into the idea of convergence they really do want one device that does it all, from taking quality images, to storing their music collections and operating a digitally connected home," Tapio Hedman, senior vice president of multimedia marketing, said in a news release.
"Our goal is to make it easy for people to have all of these experiences with them all the time in a multimedia computer," Tapio added.
Despite the relatively high cost of surfing the net with a mobile, 36 per cent of respondents say they use their mobiles to go online at least once a month, whereas 37 per cent of Japanese respondents go online with their mobiles at least once a day.
Nokia also pried into the music habits of those surveyed, to find out the 67 per cent download a percentage of their music, while 87 per cent believe they buy more music now than before they owned a digital music device. Of those surveyed, 67 per cent say that mobile phones will replace their MP3 players .
In the home, almost half the respondents want all their gadgets, including printer, PC, and mobile device, interconnected.
The research also revealed that mobiles are becoming increasingly indispensable with 21 per cent of those questioned saying they would be more upset about losing their mobile than their wallet, credit card and even their wedding ring .
