South Korean electronics giant Samsung has developed what it claims is the world's first 10 megapixel camera mobile phone.
According to Samsung, the SCH-B600 provides almost the same picture quality as professional cameras.
The new handset boasts the highest picture resolution for a camera phone ever made and it even exceeds the resolution of mid-end digital cameras. It also has a Bluetooth wireless headset, which can be used as a remote control, the company said.
The B600's camera has a 5 x digital zoom and a 3 x optical zoom.
Kitae Lee, head of Samsung's telecom business, unveiled the new gadget at the CeBIT information technology show in Hanover, Germany, on Thursday.
"The 10 megapixel phone belongs to a different level with other camera phones.
"Samsung was the first company to introduce a camera phone in the world. And we will continue to bring products with more advanced optical technologies.
"We have many researchers who are specialized in optical science and they will help us catch up with famous optic technology firms such as Carl Zeiss and Schneider soon," Lee said.
The B600 also features a 2-inch LCD display, and include support for satellite digital multimedia broadcasting and TV-out functionality. It will also have a dual-speaker system, and offers MP3 functionality.
The SCH-B600 is due to go on sale in South Korea in the second quarter of this year. The B600 is expected to cost about $318 or 266 Euros.
Mr Lee said, "With the combination of first-class technology and premium design, Samsung has led the industry by offering various features of mobile phones.
"With great improvements in mobile storage, Samsung will continue to introduce a variety of useful functions for mobile," he added.
Samsung is the world's number one producer of memory chips and ranks third among mobile phone makers.
