UK-based mobile phone giant, Vodafone Group, announced that it had signed-up a total of 10 million customers using its third-generation (3G) mobile phone service.
The company, set the target back in November 2004 when it launched 3G, which offers video calls, music downloads and games.
Vodafones Chief executive Arun Sarin said, "This is an important milestone for Vodafone and I am very pleased that we have achieved our target ahead of time. It is also clear that our customers value the additional services and benefits of Vodafone live! with 3G."
Vodafone needs ever larger numbers of customers to sign up to 3G services such as faster Internet browsing and video calling to counter slowing revenue growth in traditional mobile services.
Customers using 3G typically spend more than customers using previous generation phones. Mobile operators including Vodafone have spent billions of dollars in building their 3G networks, which they hope will lead to higher future revenues.
The company hopes to continue expanding its 3G-user base in the months and years to come, in an attempt to offset declining revenues from wireless voice services.
