The worlds fourth-largest handset maker, Sony Ericsson is planning to sell its own ultra-thin high-end Walkman camera mobile phone in 2007, slimmer than the Motorola RAZR, an industry source said.
Samsung launched their own line of slim phones last summer, which helped boost the South Korean firm's profits and sales in the third quarter.
The Source said Sony Ericsson will unveil its rival to the RAZR, dubbed "Ai," in March next year.
Inspired by Japanese tennis player Ai Sugiyama the phone is said to be bar-shaped measuring 9.4 mms in thickness, which is slimmer than the RAZR's 14 mms. It is supposed to be unveiled early 2007, and will be available in black and silver.
A Sony Ericsson Asia Pacific spokeswoman said the, "Company does not comment on new models that have not been announced."
According to research firm, Strategy Analytics, Sony Ericsson jumped into fourth position from fifth place for the first time in two years, overtaking LG Electronics Inc in the process.
With strong demand for Sony Ericssons Walkman music and Cybershot digital camera phones, Sony Ericsson, has recovered from the heavy losses they suffered four years ago, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.
