In a bid to cash in on the mountain of unused mobile phones in Britain, Carphone Warehouse launched a mobile phone auction site dedicated to selling and buying your mobile phones .
The Carphone Warehouse said users can buy and sell old or unwanted handsets through the new site.
The site called mymobileauction.com works in a similar way to eBay, but unlike eBay, there are inbuilt security measures to root out mobile phones that have been stolen and offered for re-sale.
The system uses a phone's IMEI number, which can be found by pressing *#06# on your keypad.
Carphone Warehouse will charge vendors 3 per cent of their final sale price and listing fees will be waived for one month from today, after which vendors will be charged a flat rate of £1.25.
Of that fee, £1 will pay for checks to be carried out to ensure none of the phones are stolen. Users have to register their handset's IMEI number before listing it for auction .
Tristia Clarke,Carphone Warehouse's marketing director said, "Customers tend to change their phone every year so this offers the perfect opportunity to sell old handsets."
.
Vodafone already uses eBay as a means of off-loading its end-of-line mobile phones .
