The Ultra Video F500 mobile phone manufactured by Samsung is the first mobile phone to receive DivX certification from DivX Inc. This allows users to play videos they have created using the DivX Encoder, download from the web or access use the Divx owned Stage 6 movie site.
The handset is designed in such a way that it has features on two sides of the phone. This means that a mobile phone with a multimedia side has a large 2.4inch 240x320 screen, for watching movies while the other side has additional buttons and a smaller display screen compared to the multimedia side.
Samsung have made it easier for users as the phone can be rested horizontally on a flat surface for watching movies in widescreen format.
The phone comes with a 2 megapixel camera and a built-in memory of 400Mb for storing movies which can be expanded further with microSD cards up to 2 Gb in size.
Kevin Hell, President of DivX Inc said, "The addition of DivX Certification to the Samsung F500 mobile handset opens a broad ecosystem of digital media that can be taken on the road while preserving the kind of high-quality experience that video aficionados demand.
"DivX is working to build a common digital media language that offers real interoperability across devices and platforms, and innovative devices like the Samsung Ultra F500 phone are an important piece of that ecosystem."
No prices have been released for the phone, but it is due to be released later this year.
