O2 has launched a new
mobile voucher payment system that allows
retailers to scan
discount vouchers through a
mobile phone .
The
network operator said the Instant Voucher System will enable retailers to scan discount barcodes using a
Nokia E50
phone which contains pre-installed
scanning software .
The software, which recognises two-dimensional barcodes and ensures that each top-up voucher is unique, means that retailers no longer have to carry out manual checks and send the
vouchers back to the newspaper wholesaler in order to be paid.
The announcement follows a successful eight-month trial of the service by The
Telegraph, The
Guardian and The Daily Mail newspapers which supplied 160 retailers, based in
Kent, with 700,000 vouchers .
Ben Dowd, O2s UK
business sales general
manager, commented: "IVS is a fantastic example of how by working with innovative application
partners we can create bespoke solutions for our customers."
"We look forward to working closely with 2nDimension to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by mobile vouchers in this space."
