Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced two new Walkman phones - the W880 and the W610. Sony are hoping to build on the success of hit-models such as the W810 and to broaden the appeal of the Walkman phone
Sony Ericsson are due to release a suite of music accessories which will enhance the Walkman phone listening experience.
So far the W880 is the slimmest phone from Sony Ericsson, measuring 9.4 mm thick with a 1.8 inch TFT display and a 2 mega-pixel camera. The phone also has a 1GB Memory Stick Micro which lets the user store up to 900 music tracks.
The W610 is a mixture of music player, digital camera and a cell phone. It can store up to 470 music tracks its 512MB Memory Stick Micro. It also has a new TrackID music recognition application, that lets the user record an unknown music track onto their phone and immediately receives a notification of the track name, artist and album.
"Our Walkman phones have proven to be phenomenally attractive to our consumers, we have sold 20 million Walkman phones since launch - and we are continuously developing the portfolio to extend their appeal," says Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson.
"The W880/W888 and W610 prove how the Walkman phone can appeal to different lifestyles - the W880/W888 is a hi-specification device that looks every bit as good as it sounds. And the W610 Walkman phone combines the best in both music player and digital camera, whilst first &foremost remaining a phone that's intuitive and pleasurable to use."
The Walkman W880 is a UMTS 2100 GPRS 900/1800/1900 music phone that will be available in Steel Silver or Flame Black.
The Walkman W880 has up to 18 hours playback along with a Flight Mode, allowing the user to turn off the phone during a flight, but to listen to music. The phone has over 6 hours of talk time and over 400 hours of standby time.
