BlackBerry Pearl goes white

Tue, 16 Jan 2007

One of last year's hottest phones has a new look as T-Mobile in partnership with Research In Motion (RIM) unveiled a new "Pearl White" BlackBerry Pearl mobile phone that will be available through T-Mobile .

At T-Mobile, it joined the black Pearl, which also is sold by Cingular Wireless . With the white version, T-Mobile has a "permanent exclusive" to sell the smart phone, a spokesman said.

The newest Pearl is the first BlackBerry phone to have true multimedia functions, including a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player and video functions.

The two companies claim that sending an e-mail or chatting through instant messaging on this phone is as simple as making a phone call .

The device comes with matching accessories including stereo headset, travel charger and USB cable.

"The BlackBerry Pearl has set the bar for combining the functionality of a full-featured BlackBerry phone and the ultimate in style, all at an affordable price," said Mike Butler, T-Mobile's Chief Marketing Officer, in a statement. "Now, the white BlackBerry Pearl provides our customers with another effortless, yet stylish, option to stay connected with loved ones."

Also, the Pearl doesn't use a scroll wheel to move through messages like previous BlackBerry models. A track ball is the main navigational tool for scrolling through e-mails and selecting other menu options.

"The BlackBerry Pearl has proven that it’s possible to provide a full-featured handset at an attractive price point with an uncompromising user experience and an extremely small, light and stylish design," said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Research In Motion. "We are delighted by the immediate success of the BlackBerry Pearl in the market and we are pleased to build on this momentum with the addition of another stunning colour and finish."
