LG Announce New Handsets To Receive Google Services

Fri, 30 Mar 2007

The mobile phone market is set to see a global collaboration between LG Electronics and Google to pre-install Google’s services onto LG mobile phones .

The two giant companies said the tie-up would allow searching for information, finding locations, and managing emails to become easier for mobile users around the world.

Paul Bae, Vice President of the Product Planning Team at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said, "Building on our efforts to set new standards for wireless handsets, we are excited to partner with Google to offer extra value to consumers with enhanced mobile Internet experiences."

"LG's mobile devices, combined with Google, will provide consumers with easy access to their favorite Internet services even without a PC and make it easy for them to stay connected while in motion," he added.

Europe, North America, and Asia will all see the shipment of LG handsets, pre-installed with Google software, starting in the second quarter of 2007. The handsets will create a more dynamic user experience, including one-click access to Google through an icon in the menu.

The phones will include brand new features such as Google Maps, an application that enables users to view maps and satellite imagery, and Blogger Mobile, which is an application to upload/download images and text to blog from mobile devices. The LG/Google handsets will also include Gmail, which will simplify the usage of email while on the move.

Deep Nishar, director of product management at Google commented, "We're pleased to work with LG to make it easier than ever for mobile Internet users to have powerful applications and personalized information at their fingertips."

LG, one of the leading maker of consumer electronics, plans to launch mobile handsets pre-installed with Google services for the next few years, with at least ten new handsets to be introduced this year.
