T-Mobile Launches UK Music Download Site

Wed, 02 May 2007

T-Mobile has introduced a new online UK music centre with an aim to capture the growing market for mobile phone music and video downloads.

The giant mobile operators have joined forces with ARTISTdirect - a US based independent music download site - to offer subscribers the chance to download content from a comprehensive listing of global music artists and genres as well as news, commentary and features.

Music and video content will also be available from the successful run of T-Mobile’s popular indie music site ‘Street Gigs’, where T-Mobile users will be able to download music, videos and photos from all of the acts that have featured in Street Gigs series, along with material from Channel 4’s ‘Transmission with T-Mobile’ music programme.

The UK partnership hopes to follow on from the US based version and hook into the growing market for music and video downloads through mobile phones, with the promise of a wide range of extra features due to the integration of exclusive T-Mobile content.

In addition to music and videos, T-Mobile will offer offer news about upcoming bands, gig listings, ticket sales, news, video picks, detailed artist information, exclusive interviews and backstage footage.

Sam Taylor, head of advertising and brands at T-Mobile, said: "The shared vision, creativity and innovation of ARTISTdirect.com make it a great partner for T-Mobile . The company recognises the importance of online communities in offering the best opportunity to interact with our customers."

Chief executive at ARTISTdirect, Jon Diamond also commented, "T-Mobile is equally passionate about supporting new as well as established recording acts, and its innovative features and services will enable us to provide visitors with an even broader range of content across multiple types of media."

The ARTISTdirect network service currently boasts around 15 million unique visitors in the US and a worldwide total of 40 million. Around 4 million users are in the UK .
