O2 and the
Carphone Warehouse have cut the price of Apple's 8GB
iPhone in the
UK by £100, offering the device to shoppers for just £169 just five months after its much-anticipated UK launch.
The offer for the £169 8GB iPhone is available from today until June 1 on all
O2 iPhone
tariffs and according to the
network provider is designed to add momentum to what it describes as its "fastest-selling device".
The Carphone Warehouse said it would reimburse customers who bought the 8GB
phone within the past 30 days with a £100
voucher .
The price cut matches a discount recently initiated in
Germany by Apples German network partner,
TMobile, although O2 stressed prices for the larger 16GB device will continue to remain at £329.
O2, Apple's exclusive
mobile operator in the UK, was believed to have sold around 190,000
iPhones in the first eight weeks of the handset's UK release - 10,000 units short of its target with the
company claiming that iPhone users are among its most satisfied customers.
The move comes as expectation continues to mount that
Apple will introduce a second generation iPhone in June that supports the fast
3G wireless as standard a move which analysts believe could provide an even bigger boost to iPhone sales .
