Mobile operator 3 has announced plans to launch the first
Facebook incorporated
phone by the end of the year.
The
mobile phone will be part of an "ultimate handset", which will be launched into the market in time for
Christmas, according to 3 officials.
The
handset will feature a "Facebook button" that will take users directly to the popular
networking website, making 3 the first operator to incorporate such a button into a phone .
Mark Allera, sales and
marketing director at 3, said the handset will create a "more integrated experience for the consumer" and is part of the companys plans to focus more on
mobile internet with other
mobile internet-enabled handsets expected to follow.
3 is also calling for the
EU and Ofcom to further reduce the
rates that operators have to pay to call each other known as termination rates in order to reduce consumers call costs. By doing so, the
company said operators will be allowed to offer cheaper bundled
tariffs for mobile
internet .
Allera says: "We want flat-rate pricing for all our customers," commented Allera. "Theres complexity in the market and we want to simplify it."
He added that mobile internet has the potential to become as "normal as
text messaging" but stressed that there are "barriers" preventing companies from doing so.
