MusicStation Becomes UKs Largest Music Download Service

Wed, 11 Jun 2008

MusicStation is now the UK’s largest digital music subscription service, a company official has claimed.

The unlimited download service, available exclusively on Vodafone UK, has overtaken PC-based services in terms of subscriber numbers thanks to its "straight to your pocket" approach to downloading.

Omnifone, the company behind the service, said that by utilising the mobile data network and cutting out the time-consuming side-loading process, consumers are able to profit from music on the move.

"MusicStation provides the best music experience on mobile today and Vodafone’s rollout in the UK makes this proposition the largest unlimited digital music service in the country," said Rob Wells, senior vice president of Universal Music Group International.

MusicStation is available to download on a wide range of Vodafone mobiles in the UK directly from Vodafone Live! free of charge.

Deals with all the major and many independent music labels enable users to have access to around 1.8m tracks at a cost of £1.99 a week including data charges.

Omnifone CEO Rob Lewis commented: "MusicStation makes the traditional ‘PC centric’ model, an unnecessary and outdated concept."

"Consumers have the freedom to download as much music as they want, anywhere, at any time, without the need for a computer, an internet connection, wires or even a credit card ."

The mobile-music service, launched last November, recently picked up an award for ‘Best Mobile Internet Service’ at the industry awards.
