Apples much anticipated
3G iPhone handset, unveiled last Monday, is due to be launched in the
UK on July 11.
A statement by the
company confirmed that, as with the original iPhone, the new model will be sold through high-street
retailer Carphone Warehouse and
network operator
O2, the UK arm of Spanish
telecommunications company Telefonica SA.
Carphone Warehouse said the iPhone 3G will be stocked in all of its 800-plus UK stores and will also be sold online, on both the Carphone Warehouse and O2
websites .
Two versions of the upgraded iPhone will be available to UK customers: one with 8 GB memory and one with 16 GB.
The 8 GB iPhone will cost £99 on a monthly
tariff of £30-£35, and £159 for the 16 GB iPhone on the same price plan.
On a monthly
phone tariff of over £45, the 8 GB model will be free while the 16 GB version will cost £59. The 16 GB handset will also be free to shoppers that chose the premium monthly tariff of over £75.
