Apple is looking at the possibility of expanding its mobile
music platform, according to reports in the
US .
The
electronics giant reportedly in talks some of the major music labels to try and expand its range of music available to the
iPhone direct, and to other
mobiles, via its
iTunes format.
Apple is said to want to offer its customers a wider range of
ringtones and also "answer tones" - described as customised sounds that a caller hears instead of the usual ringing sound.
The firm is also rumoured to be holding talks over the possibility of introducing over-the-air
3G music downloads, and whether the cost for tracks available in such manner should increase.
The negotiations are unlikely to be concluded in time for the opening of the WWDC 08 event, where Apple
chief executive Steve Jobs will take to the stage to deliver the keynote speech and is expected to announce the launch of the highly-anticipated 3G iPhone .
