According to recent research, the long-term
health of
children and teenagers who use
mobile phones regularly could be in danger. Although the risks are lower than those posed by
alcohol and
tobacco, there is a danger and it could last a lifetime, the study says.
According to the report,
mobile phone use exposes young people to risks including sleep problems, memory loss and potentially even brain tumours and
dementia . Welsh experts say that the government should update and strengthen their warnings on
using mobile phones .
An expert in Pontypool who advises the Department of Health on the subject, Roger Coghill, reportedly commented: "This latest report joins many thousands of others worldwide that have confirmed
mobile phones and their electro-magnetic field definitely has an
adverse effect on the brain. Yet despite the research Im not for banning
mobiles for children. I live in the real world and know this would be impossible. What youngsters should know is not to make long calls. The longer the
phone call goes on the more damage is done and this will be irreversible."
The latest research was conducted in
Moscow, and backs up other research conducted recently in
France and
Sweden .
