3 To Launch Facebook Dedicated Mobile

Mon, 10 Nov 2008

Mobile operator 3 is set to launch a new mobile phone dedicated to social networking.

The INQ1 mobile, set to be officially announced later this week, features software that allows users to access social networking sites such as Facebook faster and update and maintain their online profiles more easily than with conventional phones .

For example, the new device will have dedicated buttons that offer instant access to Facebook features and allow users to "poke" a contact – a Facebook facility which lets users access contacts, chat and message one another - without having to navigate the site itself.

Although, primarily aimed for interface with Facebook it will also work with other social networking sites such as MySpace .

According to 3, the device is aimed firmly at young people and will target the 120 million global Facebook users.

In addition to its social networking capabilities, the slider mobile also features a 3 megapixel camera, a 2.2 inch display, Skype and Windows Live Messenger services, GPS, and an eBay tracker.

Commenting on the launch, Adam Davis, head of devices for the 3 mobile network, said the handset is designed for "people who live and breathe social networking".

"It will completely change the way that people access Facebook on a mobile phone," he added.

The INQ1 will be available to buy in 3 stores across the UK from the first week of December. Pricing details are yet to be announced.
