Carphone Warehouse is offering cash-strapped customers the chance to buy a
mobile phone for less than a fiver.
The high street retailer is selling the
Samsung B130 Black
pay-as-you-go (PAYG)
handset for just £4.95, which it claims is the cheapest UK price for a
mobile phone .
However, the widely-promoted £4.95 headline price is only valid when the phone is purchased with £10 of
credit .
The ultra-cheap handset, exclusive to
Carphone Warehouse, is being marketed towards credit-crunched consumers in the run up to the
Christmas shopping season.
The no-frills handset weighs 67g and includes a large keypad, colour display,
MP3 ringtones, a
USB port and basic
WAP browsing.
Carphone Warehouse CEO Andrew Harrison commented: "When the
bills are going up we're committed to bringing our customers products they can afford with a credit-crunch-busting mobile for under a fiver."
The
mobile phones retailer also offers the Fly V60
mobile handset for £4.95 and a number of other basic handsets for £9.95.
