Official UK Launch Date For HTC Magic Phone Confirmed

Wed, 22 Apr 2009

The HTC Magic, the first touchscreen phone to run on the Google Android operating system, is set to go on sale in Britain from the start of next month.

The long awaited follow up to the T-Mobile G1 smartphone will be available exclusively to UK Vodafone users from May 5th and can now be pre-ordered from the network's website - vodafone.co.uk/magic .

The second Google Android-powered mobile phone dispenses with the slide-out QWERTY keyboard of its predecessor in favour of a full touchscreen interface, serving up a slimmer, sleeker design.

The phone was originally due to be released earlier this month, but rumoured hardware problems have seen the launch date put back to the 5th of May.

However, the handset is being released a month before Apple is expected to announce the third-generation version of its hugely popular iPhone .

The HTC Magic comes equipped with 500MB internal memory (with capacity for 8GB external memory), WiFi connectivity, GPS, Quad-band GSM and a 3.2MP camera with video-recoding capabilities.

It also comes with a variety of email options such as Google Mail, POP3 and IMAP as well as Google Talk for instant messaging. Other Google services include Google Maps with the newly-launched Street View and Google Latitude.

Pricing for the Magic starts from free on a £35 two-year contract including unlimited mobile internet use, 600 minutes and unlimited texts .
