Orange Launches Monkey Music Service

Mon, 03 Aug 2009

Orange is set to offer its Pay As You Go customers a free mobile music streaming service.

The mobile operator’s new Monkey package offers users access to streamed playlist-based music from the Universal Music label for free when they top up their phone with at least £10 each month.

By dialing 247 from a mobile handset, customers can choose from eight pre-set playlists to listen to, or they can set up eight of their own playlists online from the Universal back catalogue.

The playlists can then be shared with other Orange users and posted on social networking sites such as Facebook .

Aimed at the 14 to 16 'youth' market, Monkey also offers users 300 free texts with every £10 top up and access to competitions and artist interviews.

Commenting on the move, Orange said: "The free music element of the package fulfils an untapped market that is looking for a low cost, easy access music service without users having to worry about download costs or the functionality of their handset ."

Channel 4’s digital music channel 4 Music is promoting the new service and providing content from its own music shows.
