Tesco Launches GBP20 A Month iPhone Deal

Mon, 14 Dec 2009

Tesco Mobile has shaken up the UK iPhone market by offering the popular handset on a 12-month contract from just £20 a month.

The company has launched a number of monthly price plans for both the iPhone 3G and the latest iPhone 3GS, ranging from £20 a month - the lowest monthly mobile tariff available for the iPhone in the UK – to £60 a month.

A 12-month contract for the iPhone is a UK first. However, Tesco’s 1-year, £20 a month deals come with steep handset costs; £222 for the 8GB 3G handset, £320 for the 16GB model, and £407 for the 32GB 3GS iPhone .

The move sees Tesco Mobile join Orange and O2 - whose lowest monthly iPhone tariff is £29 for an 18-month contract - in selling the iPhone to UK customers. Vodafone will also carry the device from early next year.

Lance Batchelor, chief executive officer of Tesco Mobile and Tesco Telecoms, said: "iPhone is now available and affordable for all, with the best deals in the UK market."

"This is a fantastic announcement for us and we’re delighted to make iPhone available to our customers. It shows what a serious player in the mobile market Tesco Mobile has become."

The iPhone handsets are available at all 100 Tesco Phone Shops and online via the Tesco Direct website.
