Vodafone To Carry Nokia N900 From January

Thu, 17 Dec 2009

Vodafone has announced it will sell the much-anticipated Nokia N900 smartphone from January.

Nokia’s flagship handset was expected to arrive on the network as early as November, but Vodafone has now confirmed it will finally make its debut next month.

The mobile is the first Nokia to feature the latest Linux mobile operating system Maemo. It also comes equipped with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, an ARM Cortex A8 processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, WiFi, HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, an MP3 player and a 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with dual LED flash, and auto-focus.

The N900 was originally due to on sale in October but its launch was delayed due to high levels of pre-order demand.

"What's exciting is the Maemo software, which takes its cues from the desktop computer and offers a full browsing experience like no other handset," commented José-Luis Martinez, vice president of Nseries at Nokia .

"We believe the Nokia N900 will be a very compelling device for people who are passionate about technology."

High street retailer the Carphone Warehouse has also confirmed it will begin selling the N900 in its shops from 14 January. However, online shoppers will be able to get their hands on the device from Boxing Day via Carphonewarehouse.com.

UK consumers can currently buy a SIM-free model direct from Nokia for £499.
