Mon, 21 Dec 2009

Vodafone has announced it will start selling the iconic Apple iPhone to new and existing UK customers from January 14.

The mobile giant will offer both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS on a number of monthly tariffs, starting from a two-year, £30 a month contract which provides 300 cross-network minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB data allowance and unlimited free WiFi .

The iPhone 3G will come with a £59 handset charge on a £30 a month contract, while the iPhone 3GS (16GB model) will cost £149 on the same tariff and £239 for the top of the range 32GB device.

Customers will be able to pick up the 3G version for free on £40 a month contracts lasting 18 months, while the newer 3GS model will be free on £45 a month (16GB version) and £75 a month (32GB) price plans.

Vodafone is the latest mobile phone network to offer the iPhone to customers following the end of O2’s two-year exclusivity deal in the UK with iPhone makers Apple .

Orange joined O2 in offering the smartphone last month, while Tesco Mobiles iPhone sales started earlier this month.

Guy Laurence, chief executive of Vodafone UK, said the company would compete with rival iPhone operators by stressing the quality of its network.

"We started preparing our network over a year ago so that iPhone customers will really feel the advantage of being with Vodafone," he commented.

"We will offer an outstanding iPhone experience wherever our customers live, work and travel, delivering speed and reliability – something our customers have told us they really value."

Both the iPhone 3G and 3GS are now available to pre-order from Vodafone .
