Nokia Reveals Global Success Of 5800 XpressMusic Handset

Mon, 26 Jan 2009

Nokia has announced that sales of its first mass market touchscreen device – the 5800 XpressMusic mobile - have passed the 1 million-mark.

The 5800, also known as the 'Tube', was released in the UK on Friday morning following successful launches in Spain, Hong Kong and Moscow in December.

The much anticipated UK launch saw more than 150 people queue in the rain at Nokia's Regent Street store in London to get their hands on the newest contender to the Apple iPhone . The stylish mobile is being launched nationwide through other UK retailers this week.

Nokia Vice President Jo Harlow said: "The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been received very positively and this milestone is just further proof that people all over the world want a device that is not only a great music experience, but also makes the most of touchscreen technology."

The 5800 is the latest in a long line of touchscreen handsets to enter the mobile phone market and is also Nokia’s signature device for its Comes With Music service, which allows users to make unlimited music downloads for one year.
