Mobile phone users in the UK will own an average of two mobile handsets by the end of the year, according to a new survey.
A poll of 1,000 Brits carried out by the Daily Telegraph and media and market research group Mintel found the average adult currently possesses an average of 1.8 mobile handsets .
That figure is expected to rise to 2 mobile phones per person over the next twelve months as consumers continue to seek handsets for business use in addition to mobiles for social use.
Jim Clark, a senior analyst with Mintel, commented: "With the average person now owning 1.8 phones we are fast moving towards a two-phone per person society."
"What is more, as purse strings tighten, it seems the one thing that the nation is not prepared to cut back on is the mobile phone ."
