Mon, 06 Jul 2009

UK mobile operator O2 has sealed an exclusive UK distribution deal for the Palm Pre smartphone, the latest hi-tech mobile handset which is considered the most viable alternative to the Apple iPhone .

The partnership deal, which will be announced on Tuesday, will enhance O2’s place as the UK’s largest mobile phone network even further.

The firm already has exclusive rights to sell the Apple iPhone in the UK, including the latest 3GS version.

High street retailer Carphone Warehouse is also expected to stock the phone, offering deals on the regular O2 packages .

According to reports, Orange and Vodafone were both keen to secure rights to the much anticipated device, which boasts a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and a 3.1-inch touchscreen.

More than 300,000 Pre devices have already been sold by Palm in the US since it went on sale last month.

Although no official UK release date has been confirmed by the company, the Pre is expected to be released across Europe in September.
