Nokia Unveils Feature Packed E72 Smartphone

Wed, 17 Jun 2009

Nokia has announced the launch of its E72 smartphone, the successor to its popular E71 business handset .

The E72 keeps the sleek and thin design of its predecessor and also retains the full QWERTY keyboard of the E71 .

However, there are plenty of new features to the phone, including an optical trackpad for quick navigation, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash - compared to the E71’s 3.2 megapixel device - a 3.5mm headphone jack and active noise cancellation to make calls clearer.

Powered by Symbian S60 3rd Edition, the E72 mobile also comes equipped with GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, expandable memory up to 16 GB via a MicroSD slot, a document editor, multimedia capabilities and a 2.4-inch display with 320-by-240 resolution.

Internet connectivity is provided through intergrated WiFi, EDGE and 3G – the phone’s 3G data connectivity specifications are superior to those of its predecessor, with 10.2Mbps HSDPA compared to the E71’s 3.6Mbps.

Users also will be able to get e-mails on the go from Web-based providers such as Gmail and Yahoo Mail, and will also have access to Nokia's Ovi Store for downloading applications.

Ilari Nurmi, Nokia’s Vice President, said: "Despite the outstanding market performance of the Nokia E71, we still continually look for ways to enhance the device."

"So we included the desktop-like e-mail experience from the E71 and gave it a new optical navigation key for more initiative scrolling through menus, e-mail, and fast panning of images."

The Nokia E72 handset is due to go on sale in the third quarter of 2009 for €350 (£300) pre-tax.
