Orange Launches Cheapest Ever Monthly Tariff

Wed, 03 Jun 2009

Mobile operator Orange has introduced a pay monthly contract of just £5 per month – the cheapest ever mobile phone tariff to be offered in the UK.

The credit crunch busting deal offers customers 50 minutes and 50 free texts per month plus a Nokia 2630 handset.

However, subscribers need to sign up for a minimum contract term of 36 months, although Orange has confirmed that customers will be entitled to a free handset upgrade after 18 months.

For customers willing to spend more, the company is offering a £10 per month option, which includes 100 minutes and 300 texts with a Nokia 3600 phone, and a £15 per month tariff that gives users 200 minutes and unlimited texts with the Nokia 6500 .

Neil Macgeorge, director of Pay Monthly at Orange UK, said: "In the current economic climate, the demand for both low-cost monthly plans which include a phone and SIM only deals has materially increased."

"These new 36 month phone plans starting at £5 will provide light users with more choice since currently their only option is a pay as you go package."

"They are ideal for people who don’t want to go through a top up process, are happy to commit to a contract, want the security of knowing that they won’t run out of credit and who want a phone included in the package."

Orange is also launching a range of 18 month SIM only contracts, ranging from £10 a month for 100 minutes and 500 texts to £30 per month for 1600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

SIM Only contract customers will also be eligible for the network’s "Magic Numbers" scheme which provides inclusive, unlimited calls to their most popular contacts on Orange .
