T-Mobile has begun rolling out the long-awaited update to Google's Android operating system to users of its G1 smartphone in the UK.
According to reports, the Android 1.5 update - better known by its codename Cupcake - is being rolled out by the mobile operator to G1 phones from today and requires no action on the part of the user.
Cupcake provides Android users with an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, video record and playback capabilities, home screen widgets and allows easy upload of photos to Picasa and videos to YouTube .
In addition to the new features, Cupcake also makes a range of minor performance tweaks to the Android OS .
These include stereo Bluetooth support, faster camera and GPS applications, smoother page scrolling in the browser along with copy and paste functions, integration with Google Talk and much more.
Android 1.5 will be sent to the 100,000-plus G1 users in Britain for free over the next few weeks, and will be the default OS on the upcoming HTC Magic handset which is exclusive to Vodafone .
