Nokias Ovi mobile application store has finally gone live, much to the delight of around 50 million Nokia users worldwide.
The new Ovi Store will allow users to download and install software applications, tools and multimedia content straight to their handsets at the touch of a button.
The store will initially be available for 50 Nokia handsets (those that run using the Symbian S40 and S60 platforms) as a download, and will be pre-installed on the forthcoming flagship N97 smartphone .
UK users can either pay for their apps via credit card, or by adding the cost to their monthly bill from their network provider.
Tero Ojanperä, executive vice president for Nokia Services, said: "Ovi Store is open for business and we've stocked the shelves with both local and global content for a broad range of Nokia devices ."
"Ovi Store makes shopping for content and applications easy and fun for feature phone and smartphone owners alike."
Nokia aims to replicate the success of the Apple App Store, which has seen users download over one billion applications in just nine months.
