UK Sales Of T Mobile G1 Reach 100,000

Wed, 06 May 2009

T-Mobile UK has announced that sales of its G1 Android mobile phone have reached 100,000, outstripping sales of all other T Mobile handsets in the six months since its UK launch.

The announcement comes after the mobile phone network recently revealed that it has sold 1 million G1 phones in the US, putting total global sales of the handset at around 1.3 million.

In November, the phone’s manufacturer HTC revised its 2008 global sales forecast up to 1 million units sold, although financial services firm Morgan Stanley estimated that only 300,000 G1 devices had been sold since launch.

The impressive sales figures are still well behind those for the iPhone . Apple took just 11 weeks to sell more than 1.1 million 1st generation iPhones, while the 3G version took less than 80 hours to reach the same figure.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile UK also confirmed that it will be releasing a second smartphone based on the Google Android platform later this year.

However, the network operator did not comment on whether the new phone will be produced by HTC or whether it will get a new supplier.
