LG Introduces Pop Touchscreen Smartphone

Mon, 05 Oct 2009

LG Electronics has launched the LG GD510, or 'LG Pop' mobile phone, which the company claims is "the most compact 3-inch full touchscreen phone ever made".

The streamline, simple-to-use LG Pop comes with a sleek 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, a 3Mp camera, 8GB of internal memory and an MP3 player .

However the phone’s main selling point is its easy-to-use browser. A single button on the interface functions as the menu, end and cancel keys, depending on the phone’s mode.

The mobile can also be charged by the sun thanks to inclusion of a solar panel on the back of the handset .

LG said its research showed that many consumers want a device that has the functionality of a full touchscreen phone but without a range of unnecessary complex features.

Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications, said: "We gave the LG GD510 an optimized feature set that allowed us to concentrate on making the phone more compact and simpler to use."

"There’s a gap in the market for affordable touchscreen phones that we want to fill. The LG GD510 delivers all the essentials in communication, multimedia and entertainment and comes in a stylish compact form factor as well."

The LG Pop will be released in the UK next month, although details on contracts and pricing are yet to be confirmed.
