Vodafone has become the latest mobile network operator to secure the right to offer the iconic Apple iPhone in the UK.
The company has announced it will join rival providers O2 and Orange in offering the newest iPhone handsets - the iPhone 3G and 3GS - to British consumers.
However, the hugely popular mobile handsets will not be available on Vodafone price plans until January, meaning the operator will miss out on sales in the run-up to Christmas .
The deal follows the announcement by Orange that its customers would have access to the handsets later this year, breaking O2s two-year hold over the mobile device.
Vodafone, the UK's second-largest mobile operator behind O2, said its British business has been hit by its rivals exclusive iPhone contract with Apple, which has seen it miss out on some of the countrys highest-paying customers.
Both Vodafone and Orange are yet to unveil details of handset costs or tariffs, but it is hoped that competition between the three operators will drive down the price of the phone and make it more affordable for consumers.
Of the other UK operators, T-Mobile has said it has no plans to offer the iPhone, while 3 has so far remained silent on its intentions regarding the handset.
