The Apple iPhone has been crowned the most popular mobile phone of the last 25 years.
A survey carried out by the University of Salford to mark the 25th anniversary of mobile networks in Britain found that iconic device was the nations favourite, taking 13 per cent of the total vote.
It was closely followed by three Nokia models, the 3210 which received 8.5 per cent of the 2,000 votes, the 6310 (8.4 per cent), and the Nokia 5100 (7.8 per cent).
Nokia was the best mobile manufacturer with five handsets making the top ten list, followed by Motorola with three spots in the top ten including the Razr V3 in fifth place.
RIM was the only other mobile maker to feature, with the BlackBerry 8300 Curve taking the number six spot.
The survey was set up by Professor Nigel Linge, head of the Computer Networking and Telecommunications Research department at the University of Salford.
Commenting on the results, he said: "The Apple iPhone is a design classic and has truly transformed the design of mobile phones . Personally, Im nostalgic for the Motorola StarTAC, which was the worlds first clam shell phone but it fell outside of out top ten, being in twelfth placer."
Simon Walsh, the co-founder of European mobile phone recycling firm Mopay, which sponsored the research, said he was not surprised that the iPhone was voted Britains number one phone as "its iconic design has captured the attention of fans across the world".
