Sony Ericsson Unveils Xperia X10 Mini And Mini Pro Smartphones

Mon, 15 Feb 2010

Sony Ericsson has unveiled two new 'ultra-compact' mobile phones – the Xperia X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro.

Both phones are smaller variants of the Xperia X10 smartphone, which is due to go on sale in the UK next month. The X10 Mini measures at just 83x50x16mm and weighs 88g, while the X10 Mini Pro measures 90x52x17mm and weighs 120g as it adds a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Each model is powered by the slightly old Android 1.6 operating system and comes with a 2.55-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen display and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash.

They also sport Sony Ericsson's new UX user interface, which the company says is specially designed for smaller devices, and include the company’s Timescape app, which aggregates texts, calls, Facebook and Twitter updates.

Other features include GPS, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, a 3.5-mm headphone jack, microUSB and microSD slots.

Speaking at the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Rikko Sakaguchi, a senior Sony Ericsson executive, said: "There has been an enormous buzz around Xpera X10 so it is really exciting to be already unveiling compact versions of this powerful proposition."

"With the X10 mini and X10 mini pro we have pushed the boundaries of what is possible with smaller devices and are giving consumers exactly what they want; two high performance mobile phones with a fully customisable user experience platform and a stunning ultra-compact design."

The X10 Mini will come with the choice of seven different colours - black, white, pearl, pink, lime, red and silver – while the Mini Pro will be available in either red or black.

Both the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro are due to be released in the UK in the second quarter of the year. Price are yet to be announced.
