Samsungs Galaxy Portal Smartphone Released In The UK

Samsung has finally launched its Android-based Galaxy Spica i5700 smartphone in the UK.

The mobile handset, which runs on the Android 1.5 operating system, has been rebranded the ‘Galaxy Portal’ and is available to buy via T-Mobile .

Feature-wise, the phone boasts a 3.2-inch, HVGA touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity.

It also comes with DivX and MPEG4 support, advanced audio technology via DNSe 2.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroSD memory card slot that supports up to 32GB (a 1GB SD card is included with the phone).

Being an Andoid device, the Galaxy Portal also offers the full array of Google services as well as Layer, an augmented reality (AR) browser.

Mark Mitchinson, vice-president of Samsung UK and Ireland, said: "The launch of this stunning device clearly underlines our commitment to smartphone products and forms part of our strategy to deliver a wide range of handsets designed to suit a multitude of users."

"The Samsung Galaxy Portal gives consumers the benefit of the Android platform – including an extensive range of innovative apps to download, multi-tasking with apps running in parallel and pre-installed Google services - at an affordable price."

T-Mobile is offering the phone exclusively for one month (three months for the black Galaxy Portal model).

Customers can pick up the Galaxy Portal for free on a £23 a month, 18-month contract, which includes unlimited internet, 200 minutes and 200 texts, or an £25 per month, two-year price plan which comes with unlimited texts .
