Vodafone iPhone Sales Reach 100,000 In First Week

Wed, 27 Jan 2010

Vodafone has revealed it managed to sell 100,000 iPhone handsets in the first week of sale, showing that demand for the iconic Apple device is still as strong as ever.

According to the mobile phone giant, more than 50,000 iPhones were pre-ordered by customers and a further 50,000 were snapped up within the first days of Vodafone’s official release date (January 14).

"The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal," said Vodafone chief executive Guy Laurence. "They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we're delivering that."

Vodafone is the fourth mobile network in the UK to carry the iPhone, almost two and a half years after Apple first launched the revolutionary smartphone in the UK on the O2 network.

Orange became the second mobile operator to stock the device following the end of O2's exclusivity deal for the iPhone last November 2009, which also promoted Tesco Mobile to the device.

Vodafone said it intends to rely on the strength and robustness of its network to give it an edge over its iPhone competitors.

At launch, a company spokeswoman said: "We been investing in our network and we believe we offer our customers a great experience with the iPhone ."

"We are quite confident that we have invested in the right place to make sure our network provides the best experience for iPhone users."
