Samsung has added to its line-up of budget smartphone handsets with the launch of the Samsung Champ.
The announcement comes just a day after the mobile makers budget-friendly Galaxy 5 Android phone was spotted in the flesh at the Google I/O conference.
Unlike the Galaxy 5 the Champ is not a Google Android device. Instead it runs Samsung's TouchWiz Lite user interface, which allows for a 3x3 widget menu on its 2.4-inch touchscreen QVGA display.
The C3300K Champ also features a 1.3 megapixel camera that can playback video (H.263, MPEG4, QCIF) at 15fps, and audio via MP3 and FM radio .
However, users who plan on storing any media on the phone will have to purchase a microSD card to expand the handsets small memory capacity.
Connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.1, GSM and EDGE RX. However there is no 3G or Wi-Fi.
The Samsung Champ smartphone will be available from June, a month before the Android 2.1 Galaxy 5 is scheduled to be released. Prices for both mobiles are yet to be announced.
