iPhone4 Replaces Android Rivals As UKs Favourite Mobile

The iPhone4 has reclaimed its position as the nation's most popular mobile phone, according to new data from price comparison website uSwitch.com.

The site’s mobile tracker research, which ranks the most popular handsets based by live searches and sales, shows that the Apple phone has taken the number one spot for April, jumping ahead of the HTC Desire HD and Desire handsets.

In fourth place is the yet-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy S II, due to the sheer number of pre-orders being made for the smartphone, while its predecessor – the Samsung Galaxy – takes fifth spot.

Completing the top ten list for April 2011 are the HTC Wildfire, Blackberry Curve 8520, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Blackberry Torch .

"HTC may still be dominating the top ten, but the fact that iPhone has risen to number one for the first time will take some of the gloss off," said Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com.

"And although the old favourites Apple and HTC are still the front runners, the battle for other spots in the top ten is on. The buzz around the Samsung Galaxy SII has been enough to push it up to 4th in the list based on just pre-orders - it's not launched nationwide until May 1."

"The biggest winners though are consumers," Doku added. "As the handsets do battle, prices of deals are being driven down. Even those who want smartphone functionality but are keen to keep an eye on the pennies will be happy."
